Meet Our New Intern, Moe Thin

Čtvrtek 25. září 2025, 10:56 – Text: Moe Thin

In September 2025, I began my virtual internship with the Myanmar Studies Center after being selected through the European Union Mobility Program for Myanmar (EMPM). My internship period starts from mid-September 2025 and will end in mid-December 2025, lasting for three months.

I grew up in a Burmese+Rakhine family where both cultures and languages have shaped my daily life. Furthermore, I used to spend most of my childhood school years in different regions around the country. This unique blend of culture has not only broadened my worldview but also given a unique perspective on identity, communication and history.

Currently, I am a Bachelor student studying International Relations in Yangon, Myanmar. My interest in international affairs and history when I was young led me to pursue this degree with a minor in International Law, International Trade and History. My recent research at the university mainly focuses on the Indo-Pacific Strategy toward Southeast Asia during the first term of President Trump’s administration, exploring the two main aspects of economic and security and defense relations between the United States and Southeast Asia.

My interest in community empowerment started in 2020 when I worked and volunteered at local youth-led educational social enterprises, having a chance to empower youths and build myself as a more capable person with a team at the same time. Based on these experiences, in recent years, I had academic exchange experiences in Singapore, the United States, and Cambodia. These experiences allowed me to better understand cross-cultural connections, identities, and value diversity. In addition, they further supported my volunteering work at the American Center Yangon in 2025 in promoting people-to-people relations between Myanmar and the United States.

During my internship at the MSC, I anticipate working closely with European researchers who share a commitment in Myanmar studies and bringing positive change in sustaining interdisciplinary research and education in Myanmar as part of the team.
